Ordered it for our son's birthday, in yellow. He unwrapped it and was hooked immediately. First specimen: the cat. Then leaves from the yard, grains of salt, a piece of fabric from his T-shirt. The screen is small but plenty for a kid, and the magnification shows detail you'd never catch with the naked eye. His favorite part is that he can take photos with it. We looked at the pictures together on the laptop afterward. The battery lasts a good hour and a half to two hours for us, which is plenty. For the price I'm pleasantly surprised, I didn't expect it to be this much fun.

I wanted something that would pull my kids away from a screen without feeling like schoolwork. This did it. My two (8 and 10) now head outside after lunch and collect things to examine. Coins, insects, flower petals, and recently a piece of bread with mold on it. They found it fascinating, I less so. But that's exactly the point, they're discovering on their own. The yellow one looks sharp, by the way, the kids like it. It seems sturdy too, it has already survived falling off the table twice.

Light, compact, fits in any bag. My daughter takes it on every hike now. Tree bark, moss, rocks, everything gets examined and photographed. The LEDs help when it's shady.

I ordered the microscope for my grandson for Christmas. White, because he thought that looked nicer. Ordering was straightforward and it arrived on time. When he unwrapped it he wanted to get started right away. We looked at stamps and shells from his collection together. He explained everything to me like a little scientist. That alone made it worth it. I never thought I'd hit the mark this well with a grandkid.

The microscope itself is nice and compact and sits well in the hand, even for my 7-year-old. The tricky part is focusing. You have to hit the distance to the object pretty precisely and hold steady. Still hard for him on his own, but with my help it works fine. When the image is sharp you really do see some cool detail. We use the photo function regularly. One star off because the product page says fairly little about the exact features, more transparency there would help.
